Besides the beach experience, here at Wrightsville Beach, you can visit a botanical garden nearby that is set up as a self guided walking tour experience.
These gardens were once part of a 155 acre estate owned by a New York family planting half a million azalea bushes and exotic plants from all over the world. One of the first things you get to see is this 469 year old oak tree dating back to 1545.
There is a butterfly house.
The Minnie Evans Sculpture Garden featuring a chapel made of over 2,800 bottles.
The Lebanon Chapel built in 1835 which is an episcopal Church still in use today.
There is a museum on site with details of the early history.
All in all, a very enjoyable experience that I would suggest if you are in the area particularly if you want a break from sand and sun.
